Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 26, 2026

1. Introduction

GM Review Transparency ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome Extension and associated backend service handle data.

2. Data Collection and Usage

Our extension collects publicly available data from Google Maps pages you visit, specifically:

  • Location names
  • Average ratings ("Sterne")
  • Total number of reviews
  • Plus Codes (location identifiers)
  • Google Maps URLs

Personal Information: We do not collect personal information such as your name, email address, browsing history outside of Google Maps, or any other identifying data. All scraped data is associated only with the business location, not with you as a user.

The purpose of this collection is to track changes in review counts over time to identify potential review manipulation and provide transparency to the community.

3. Data Transmission and Storage

The extracted business data is transmitted to our backend server. In production, all transmissions are secured via HTTPS (modern cryptography).

4. Limited Use Disclosure

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically:

  • We only use the data to provide or improve the core functionality of the extension (transparency monitoring).
  • We do not transfer user data to third parties, except as required for the core functionality or by law.
  • We do not use or sell user data for advertising purposes.

5. Your Consent

By using the GM Review Transparency extension, you consent to the collection and processing of public business data as described in this policy. You can stop data collection at any time by disabling or uninstalling the extension.
